sat-nms IO-FEP2 I/O Front-End Processor

sat-nms IOFEP-2 view without cabling

The sat-nms IO-FEP2 I/O Front-End-Processor is the second generation of the formerly sat-nms IO-FEP/IO-FEP-E. It interfaces to any "low level" interface commonly used in satellite ground stations like equipment alarm contacts, waveguide- or coaxial-switches and other status signals. It provides opto-coupled in- and outputs and potential free relay output contacts. All these interfaces are monitored and controlled locally in the sat-nms IO-FEP2.

You can also integrate the sat-nms IO-FEP2 seamlessly in our sat-nms MNC. But also the integration in other monitoring solutions is possible because of SNMP, HTTP and RS232 interfaces. The sat-nms IO-FEP works also as a stand-alone system with a user-friendly web browser interface and an integrated event and alarm log.

IO-FEP Key Features

  • Ethernet (SNMP, Modbus and HTTP), web browser and RS232 interface
  • Integrated redundancy switching capability
  • Up to 6 LNA/LNB power supply monitoring
  • Up to 48 digital inputs
  • 6 relay outputs & 10 PMOS outputs
  • Interfaces for up to 16 waveguide switches
  • Supports RF inhibit contacts of waveguide switches and HPAs
  • Temperature measurement with external PT1000 Sensors
  • Integrated alarm/ event logging on USB flash driver
  • NTP time synchronization with redundant NTP sources
  • Redundant power supplies

IO-FEP applications

  • Perfect suited for all types of satellite ground stations
  • Monitoring of alarm contacts
  • Control of waveguide and coaxial switches
  • Redundancy switching with RF inhibit of HPA’s
  • LNAs / LNBs powering and switching
  • 1:1 and 2:1 protection switching for any device

IO-FEP2 Web UI

The Web-UI provides a user-friendly access for operation and configuration. No external tools or software are required expect a common web browser.

Redundancy switching

Schematics LNB Redundancy with IO-FEP2

Internal redundancy switching mode enables the sat-nms IO-FEP2 to work as stand-alone redundancy controller. And you can monitor the power supply (voltage and the current) of up to 6 LNAs or LNBs and use these measurements to trigger a redundancy switchover between amplifiers.

The following modes are available:

  • 1:1 protection
  • 2:1 protection

HPA RF Inhibit switching

The sat-nms IO-FEP2 performs automatic RF-inhibit of high power amplifiers (HPA) during switch-over time of waveguide switches - selective RF inhibit of only affected HPA’s in N:1 redundant configuration is possible. If waveguide switches do not provide the RF inhibit feature at all, the sat-nms IO-FEP2 takes care of the correct sequence.

Redundant power supplies

Schematics redundant power supplies for IO-FEP2

The sat-nms IO-FEP2 can use two different 24V DC power supplies:

  • 24V INT for controller and processor circuit
  • 24V EXT supply of digital outputs, waveguide switches or coaxial switches

Both are prepared for redundant power supplies. So it is possible to supply this unit with one, two or four power supplies. We strongly recommend to use minimum 2 power supplies to to ensure maximal system stability.
